Tangra Fish Curry

Today I’m going to share with you one of Bengali’s flavourful and healthy fish recipes with some very tempting preparations. Can you guess what the name is? Well, well! It is Tangra Fish Curry or Tangra Macher Jhal.

My Friends! as you know Fish is one of the world’s healthiest foods, and it’s filled with essential nutrients including calcium, vitamin D, and others. Even fish is the best source of omega-3 fatty acids in the world, which is extremely essential for your body and brain. All right! let’s focus on the recipe. 🙂

  • Tangra fish: 6-8 pic
  • Spring Onion chopped: 1/2 bunch
  • Kalo Jira: 1/2 tsp
  • Tomato: 2 medium
  • Onion paste: 2 large
  • Ginger paste: 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder: 2tsp
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Sugar (to taste)
  • Mustard Oil

TIME REQUIRED : Less than 30 minutes



At first, clean the fish, then sprinkle the turmeric powder and salt on the fish and rub them off, and after that hold on for 15-20 minutes.


Heat some oil in a saucepan, fry the fish until both sides have light brown, and then remove the fried fish in the saucepan and place aside.


Now take a saucepan and add the chopped spring onions and saute until translucent. Once it’s done place aside.


In the saucepan, pour in some oil and kalo Jira, and then add the onion paste and saute until onion turns light brown.


Next add the paste of Ginger, Red Chilli powder, Tomatoes, Turmeric powder, Salt, and Sugar and saute for a few mins, once the oil begins to separate from the masala add some water and bring it to boil.


Add onion spring, green chilies, and Tangra fish to keep it cooked for a few mins with a cover.


Open the lid after a few mins and check for your desired gravy consistency and remove it from the pan serving hot with plain rice.
