Dhokla is a soft, spongy, and easy-to-make microwave or cooker recipe. This is an airy, easily digestible Indian breakfast made from Besan or sooji (semolina). Dhokla is one of the most loved snacks across the country that is made in many different ways. It originates primarily from western Indian cuisine, or specifically from Gujarati cuisine.
Dhokla can be to the health chart if you’re cautious about your calorie intake. Garam flour is the main ingredient of Dhokla and gram flour is packed with protein, and this dish is steamed, light, and easy to digest.

- Gram flour(besan) – 1 Cup
- Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Green chillies – 3 to 4
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Eno fruit salt – ½ tsp
- Few curry leaves
- pinch hing / asafoetida
- Oil – 2tsp
- salt as per taste
- Sugar as per taste
TIME REQUIRED : 10 mins to prepare and 20 mins to cook
Gram flour, eno fruit salt, salt, lemon juice, green chili, sugar and turmeric mix in a bowl, and then add water and make a smooth mixture with medium-thick consistency.
Lubricate the steaming tin with 2 drops of oil, then pour in the mixture. Steam for about 15-20 minutes or till cooked.
Now in a saucepan, add oil, curry leaves, mustard seeds, hing, and green chilies, now when it splutter, turn the tadka over the prepared dhokla and cut into pieces.
Your Dhokla is now ready, and Enjoy it with green chutney and tamarind chutney.
