Ilish Macher Tok is sweet & tangy, it’s one of the old school style traditional Bengali recipes. - Hilsa fish – 5 pieces
- Mustered Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Tarmarind paste – 2 tsp
- Dry Red Chillies 1-2 pieces
- Sugar – 3 tbsp
- Turmaric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Musterd Oil – 3 tbsp
- Salt to taste
TIME REQUIRED : 10 mins to prepare and 10 mins to cook
Take cleaned & washed fish. Marinate the fish with salt & turmeric powder.
Heat oil in a saucepan and fry the fish pieces. Hold the fish aside.
Then add whole spices(Mustard seed & dry red chili) & wait to crackle.
Tamarind pulp should be dissolved in half a cup of water. when the whole spice is crackle, then add salt and turmeric. when the water becomes boil add One and a half cups of boiling water. and cook in high flames. At the end the delicious recipe should have enough liquid. So adjust the water as much as needed.
Add sugar and bring it to boil. Once boiling started, add fried fish and cook for five minutes by covering the pan with lid.
Turn off the fire and serve with lightly steamed rice.
