Green Tomato Puti Fish Curry

Green Tomato Puti Fish Curry is one of the delicious fish preparation which I’m going to share with you. In this preparation I am using fresh green tomatoes. It`s a traditional recipe and very simple and easy to prepare. This is probably the easiest fish recipe of all.

  • 150 gms Puti Fish/Maach (Spotfin Swamp Barb)
  • 3-4 slice green tomato
  • 1 Potato (cut like finger chips)
  • 11/2 tbsp Muster Paste
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • ½ tsp Muster Seeds
  • 1-2 dry Chili
  • 3 tbsp Muster Oil
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Sugar (to taste)

TIME REQUIRED : Less than 30 minutes



At first wash and clean the Puti fish. Then rub the Puti fish with salt and turmeric pd, and keep aside for 15-20 min. This is preparation time and it’s not included with the cooking time. Hope you know that. 🙂


Heat muster oil in a pan then fry the fish well and keep aside. Then fry the potatoes and keep aside.


Add some oil in the pan. Add dry chili and some muster seeds when starts to splutter. Then add tomatoes, salt, turmeric powder. Now stir and cook for few minutes in low flames with lid closed.


When the tomatoes become soft add fried potatoes, chili powder and mix well.


Add 2 Cups of water to the mustard paste and mix very well. Now add this mixture in the pan to boil.


Now; it’s time to add fried fishes into the gravy and add ½ tsp sugar. Cook around 7-8 minutes in medium flame, so the fishes coated properly with the Gravy.


Water level can be adjusted if required, however I prefer medium consistency. Now your Green Tomato Puti Fish Curry is ready to serve with plain rice.
